After some brainstorming sessions and discussions with various consulting firms, a decision was made to install a landfill gas extraction and flare system to achieve the company's goal to eliminate the intermittent odor detected when passing by the facility, which employs 40 people locally. The year-long project was completed in December. "We're a big enough landfill that we can take a lot of waste, but we're small enough that we didn't have to put the system in," Walker said.
